Everyone desires their flat iron to bring fast and effective results while protecting the strands. But generally speaking, finding all of these qualities in one tool is rare. Bio Ionic OnePass Styling Iron is one of those tools that manages to combine a speedy session while being as gentle as possible on your hair. It comes with a technology called “moisturizing heat” which doesn’t burn your strands as quick as a regular flat iron. It also has ceramic plates which is known to be the gentlest material available. It has a maximum temperature of 450°F which is a number that appeals to thick and stubborn hair types as well. It can definitely tame the unruly. Its low setting is 265°F, and as much as it’s not the lowest in the market, it makes up with its gentle styling capacity. So, if you have fine hair, don’t hesitate as your strands are totally safe. Another ability worth mentioning is that this tool can be used as a curler and it successfully delivers beautiful waves. Its rounded edges make it easier, and the swivel cord helps as well. We’re well aware of the fact that it’s a high-priced tool with $200, and it may be slightly overpriced. But it delivers what it promises and last for many years without breakage. Below we share our experiences with Bio Ionic OnePass Styling Iron.

Table Of Contents

Shape And Size

Bio Ionic Onepass comes in two different sizes which are 1” and 1.5”. 1” is the most versatile number and considered medium-sized. It fits almost all hair lengths and is the one you should choose if you can’t decide which one is the best for you. If you have long hair on the other hand, 1.5” will style your hair faster as it can cover more area at one pass. Larger plates also get hotter and are better at taming thick hair. The plates of the 1” sized option are even larger with exactly 1.16” according to our measurements. This means, if you have very short hair, these tools may not be the perfect fit for you. There are flat irons with smaller plates on our list that will do a better job with short hairstyles such as Babylisspro Nano Titanium Prima3000  with a 0.75” plate option. This tool is also considered superior at creating curls with its rounded edges. The 1.5” size works especially effectively if you want to create beach waves.

Length of its plates is 3.55” and is one of the smallest on our list. This actually is not the best option for very long hair as the longer the plate the faster the session will be. But Bio Ionic has proven itself to be one of the fastest flat irons on our list so this is not really an issue. If you want the longest plates to cover the largest area at one pass, Conair Double Ceramic Flat Iron has plates with a length of 4.73” and is the longest on our list.

Length of the whole tool is 10.5” and is below average. This is a good thing if you travel with your flat iron and you want it to be as compact as possible.

It doesn’t have multidirectional floating plates which is a great feature that ensures the contact between the hair and the tool at all times. But its plates have rounded edges for a better curling experience and to eliminate creasing. If multidirectional plates are a priority for you, Hot Tools purple ceramic flat iron is a great alternative to this tool which as similar qualities.

Heat And Variable Settings

Bio Ionic Onepass Styling Iron has variable heat settings and a temperature range starting from 265°F till 450°F. This is a versatile tool that fits every hair type, 450°F appeals to stubborn hair that needs to be tamed with high heat. 265°F is not the lowest on our list and normally it may not be low enough for fine hair, but Bio Ionic’s moisturizing heat technology combined with its ceramic plates offers a gentler styling experience that fits the needs of fragile strands.

Heat of its handle goes up till 79°F and is completely safe to use even for long periods of time. The cool tip is much higher with 143°F and may be too hot for sensitive hands. The back of its plates on the other hand, tents to get extremely got with 194.5°F and should definitely be avoided while using this flat iron. This may create some discomfort as it can be difficult to avoid touching this area.

This tool has all the digital features that a flat iron has to offer. It comes with a led display and digital temperature control. It has a lock switch that fixes the desired temperature as well as an audible warning that signals when it reaches the desired temperature. Lastly, it has a 60-minute auto shut-off that ensures maximum safety and puts busy minds at ease.

Material And Performance

This tool comes with ceramic plates. Ceramic is a material known for its gentleness and even heat distribution. They are recommended for beginners as they heat up slowly and avoid heat damage. If you have fine hair, ceramic is definitely the best option, and they can be used daily in comparison to titanium plates that should be avoided being used too often.

It also comes with an ion generator to eliminate frizz, speed up the session, and create the smoothest results.

This is a luxury tool with a luxury price of $200 and while it’s definitely an investment to consider, it doesn’t disappoint in the durability department. It has a sturdy material but, in our opinion, considering its light weight design, it’s not as sturdy as a $200 product should be. It also may not be as durable as Babyliss flat irons but it ranks right behind in our opinion.

Ergonomics

Bio Ionic Onepass is 8.2 oz and one of the lightest tools on our list, right after FHI Platform Signature Pro Styler. Knowing that this tool is also shorter than most, we can say that it’s one of the most travel-friendly and compact flat irons on our list. The lightweight design also helps with arm fatigue, especially if you use it for long periods of time.

The diameter of its handle is 4.5” and is average-sized. This is the most ergonomic size that fits most hands.

It has a 9ft swivel cord. While the length is longer than most and really helpful if your plug is far from your mirror, the swivel cord helps create beautiful curls easier.

This is an ergonomically designed tool that comes with an ergonomic thumb rest to ensure maximum comfort.

Price And Guarantee

Bio Ionic Onepass has a price tag of $200 and is considered luxury rather than being budget friendly. It delivers very fast and smooth results while being as gentle as possible on the strands. It also has a durable material, but it’s also quite light weight and not as sturdy compared to its equally priced competitors. In our opinion it’s a slightly overpriced tool, especially sturdiness is your priority. Any Babyliss flat iron such as Babylisspro Nano Titanium Prima3100 Ionic Straightener, is superior at durability. But Bio Ionic is more suitable for home use with its compact design and gentleness on the strands, while Babyliss flat irons are preferred for professionals.

Competition

Bioionic 10X Styling Iron is a great alternative to Bio Ionic OnePass, especially for dense hair. It has 1″ longer plates and covers more hair in one go. With just a 15°F higher minimum temperature, Bioionic 10X is suitable for fine to thick hair types.

If you want to play it safe, ghd gold is the perfect alternative to the Bio Ionic OnePass. This flat iron is set to a constant temperature of 365°F, ensuring a safer styling experience for thicker hair types.
