Model name/ number: CD705GN (1″)

Shape: straight barrel wand
Size: 1”
Best for: all hair types and lengths
What we like: affordable, versatile
What we don’t like: material quality not high
How it stands out: affordable wand shaped tool for short hair with its short and straight barrel
Rating: 4.2/5.0

Conair Double Ceramic Curling wand offers an affordable tool with great performance. Its short barrel appeals to short strands as its easier to manoeuvre and handle. Since most wand shaped tools come with a tapered shape, we can say that its straight design is quite extraordinary. It’s still a wand shaped tool, without a holding clamp, and creates casual looking voluminous waves. But the locks that it creates are s-shaped and quite uniform as its barrel is straight. You have to hold the tips of your strands while styling, which creates a more undone look. The heat range of this tool is quite large and it has 30 variable heat settings to choose from. Its maximum temperature of 400 °F is more than enough to tame thick and curly hair. But the lowest setting of 270 °F is on the edge of being too high to prevent heat damage on fine strands. The ceramic material helps though, providing slow and even heat. It also heats up less than its titanium alternatives, leaving room for mistakes, especially for beginners. It comes with a 1” barrel, which is known to be the most versatile size in the market and is the safest option to go for if you cant decide which size is right for you. The curls that id creates are medium sized and it appeals to both short and long strands. The material quality of this tool is not very high and its paint seems to start chipping off quite quickly. It also doesn’t have any digital display or temperature control which can be helpful if you’re new to home styling. It’s a very affordable product which comes with these small costs. But its performance genuinely impressed us.

If you’re seeking the best curling iron for short hair, rest assured, Conair Double Ceramic Curling Wand has you covered.

Features

Shape

Conair Double Ceramic Curling Wand has the extraordinary shape of a Straight Barrelled Wand. Since most Wands in the market comes tapered, we can say that it’s a rare one. First of all, it leaves out the holding clamp on purpose, to create more casual looking results. You have to hold the tips of your strands while styling your hair. This allows a more undone finish as not all parts of the strands get exposed to same amount of heat. It also is more prone to heat damage, and it’s good to be careful with your hands. The curls that are created are s-shaped, rather than being spiralled, and is more voluminous by nature. The straight barrel allows more uniform curls than its tapered alternatives, and is something between in terms of casual vs. perfect looking hair. If you would prefer sleeker results, we recommend checking out a traditional spring iron instead though. It’s easier to use and the locks that it creates are more defined.

Size

This tool comes with a 1” barrel which is the standard number all manufacturers provide. It’s the most commonly found size in the market and can fit almost all hair types and lengths, as well as creating large variety of styles. It can create beach waves as well as tighter curls, according to your need. So this tool is as versatile as it gets and there’s no need to worry about size, as long as its other qualities appeal to you.

The length of its barrel, on the other hand, is quite short with 5.1”, less than the average number of 5.4”. This makes this tool compact and appeals to short strands. It’s makes it easier to handle the tool. But if you have mid-back or longer hair, it may not be able to cover all your hair at one go, which would result in more passes and a slower styling experience. Shorter barrels also can heat less as they have less surfaces.

Heat and Variable Settings

Conair Double Ceramic Curling Wand has 30 different heat settings to choose from, starting from 270 °F and reaching up till 400 °F. We appreciate a tool with many temperature options, so we can find the perfect option for our needs. The maximum setting is quite perfect, and can tame the difficult and thick hair types. But the minimum temperature is not really low enough for the extra fragile strands and may cause some heat damage if you’re not careful. But its ceramic material softens the experience and makes it gentle enough for all hair types. So, we can say that this is a very versatile tool and fits all hair types.

Material and Performance

Double Ceramic is not a very common material when it comes to curlers as most come simply with ceramic barrel. The fact of it being double means that it has a higher ceramic content than usual, which amplifies this material’s benefits. Ceramic is known for its gentleness. It heats up slowly and less than titanium as well as distributing the heat more evenly. This slows down the process a little, but leaves more room for mistake. It’s beneficial especially for beginners and fine strands and its much less prone to heat damage. But if speed is your priority, it’s not the best option.

This is a highly affordable tool and we’re impressed by its performance and ability to tame the unruly strands easily. But its material is not the best quality and definitely not the best tool in the market if you prefer a very durable curling wand. It has some simple issues that comes with a low-cost product such as its paint coming of quite quickly.

Features

This is a budget tool which usually means that it doesn’t come with the fancy features. Ionic technology is one that we really like in hair tools, which eliminates frizz from the strands. If you have frizzy hair and would prefer to get rid of it, we recommend to seek another tool that has this feature.

It comes with a 60-minute auto shut off technology. This makes this tool as fire safe as possible. As hot tools can be hazardous, it’s a very useful feature to have.

It comes with a 3 finger heat resistant glove to protect your hands from heat. Since this tool has a wand shaped barrel and you need to hold your strands with your hand, it’s very useful to have this accessory.

It comes with dual voltage to make sure that you can use it anywhere in the world. Since this is a compact tool as well with a small and lightweight design, we can say that its very travel friendly.

Ergonomics

Conair Double Ceramic Curling Wand weighs 7.1oz which can be considered lightweight as the average is 7.4oz. This is great, first of all if you struggle from arm fatigue when you hold the tool while styling, which is very common. It also makes it perfect for traveling, as we mentioned before.

Its handle has a diameter of 1”, and is pretty average sized. It’s comfortable to hold for most hands.

It doesn’t come with digital display, but has digital temperature control. So it’s easy to see and change the temperature for your specific needs.

It comes with a large cool tip that you can hold while you’re styling your strands. It does get a bit hot while using the tool but just enough to be comfortable to hold.

It has an integrated counterrest to keep it away from the surfaces while its hot.

Its cord is short with only 5 ft. It’s swivel and easy to maneuver, but its length can be annoying if you need to move around with your tool.

Price & Warranty

It costs only $25 and is a highly affordable curling wand. It appeals to the ones that are on a budget yet would still like to have an efficient tool in their hands. But it certainly can’t offer the same quality of a luxury product. But it’s definitely great value for its price. It comes with a limited 2-year warranty which is the usual number in the market.

Competition

If you’re in the search for a high-quality wand that will last you for many years and just feels luxurious to hold, Bioionic Goldpro Styling Wand is worth checking out. It also comes with a straight barrelled wand and has ceramic material with a veery large range of heat settings. It costs considerably more with $99 and offers the highest quality material available in the market, as well as ionic technology.

If you have very long strands, this tool may get a bit frustrating as its barrel is quite short. Babyliss Nano Titanium Curling Wand is perfect for long strands with its 6” barrel. It also comes as a straight-barrel wand and has titanium material so it would be much faster and easier to style your strands.

If you prefer more natural-looking, looser waves rather than defined waves that a straight barrel can give you, Conair also offers the Conair Double Ceramic Tapered Curling Wand.
